Study shows electronic voting is vulnerable

Submitted by Charles on Wed, 06/28/2006 - 09:58.

When I voted this spring, I wondered about the security of the new machines. I had heard that a paper receipt was a part of the process but there was not one available.

Part business guru, part standup commedian, Guy Kawasaki has a knack for making complex things very simple while making you laugh along the way. I first met him when he spoke at the Innovest Venture Capital Conference years ago.

The MPAA and RIAA join forces?

Submitted by Phillip Williams on Wed, 06/21/2006 - 11:40.

While surfing today I came accross an interesting site.  The MAFIAA... this is just too acurate to be real. (It is not by the way)  Organized crime or a legitimate organization to stop us all from ever enjoying the music and film that is produced for our entertainment?

The value of learning from other regions

Submitted by Ed Morrison on Tue, 06/20/2006 - 10:55.

Last week, I was busy, as Valdis Krebs would say, "closing triangles" between leaders in Oklahoma City and Lexington, Kentucky. First, you need some background. Beginning in 1993, I worked with the Chamber of Commerce in Oklahoma City to design a new economic development strategy. In the past, Oklahoma City, like many other cities, defined economic development in terms of recruitment. The main focus of their efforts was to identify a large companies and try to recruit them to the area.

Are online social networks here to stay?

Submitted by Phillip Williams on Sun, 06/18/2006 - 10:45.

I just came across a recent article on C/Net's website (click here) about the possibility that online social networks are not what we might think they are. They state that they are a fad, something that will begone as quickly as it started.

REPORTING ATTITUDE / REALNEO VS ECO CITY

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sun, 06/11/2006 - 16:52.

Theres' a stark difference in reporting attitude between REALNEO and ECO City site...

Take a look at the review of the ODOT bridge meeting posted by Marc Lefkowitz on we-wannabe-a GreenCity http://www.gcbl.org/  .   This is Polly Anna reportage in my book – you know, the type of reporting where when there’s a controversy, don’t address it.  Talk nice.  Make nice.  Don’t offend (the funders).

KILLING DEFINES U.S. SUCCESS

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sat, 06/10/2006 - 14:59.

It is a sad day (and week) when our country defines its success and global prowess by who we are able to kill (with a bit of "collateral" damage).   When one considers the paranoid, self serving, and repugnant subjects which have taken up the Congressional and National agenda this week while the citizenry barely raised an eyebrow,  then George Orwell wasn't writing fiction after all.

Have you ever wanted to find public domain images that you can use for your blog posts or other creative projects? New York Times Criticizes Kenneth Blackwell's Handling of Voter Registration in Ohio

Submitted by Charles on Thu, 06/08/2006 - 00:32.

None other than the New York Times has opined on the sad state of voter affairs in the state of Ohio. All I could think of is the quote attribued to Yogi Berra that "This is like deja vu all over again." Here's what the editorial observed in part:

The latest sign that Republicans have an election-year strategy to shut down voter registration drives comes from Ohio. As the state gears up for a very competitive election season this fall, its secretary of state, J. Kenneth Blackwell, has put in place "emergency" regulations that could hit voter registration workers with criminal penalties for perfectly legitimate registration practices. The rules are so draconian they could shut down registration drives in Ohio.
