Here's one way to keep your chickens dry. Pete Betchik of Madison on the Lake, Ohio built a chicken shelter using found materials. "The frame is made from wooden pallets, the roof also is pallet wood. The sides are old steel shelves. The inside is lined with old pizza boxes, the nest box was once used to ship fresh fish to market, and the front door was an industrial clothes dryer front."

If we're going to ask for money, we need a focused proposal.
To make such a proposal, we need some agreement on what our goals are.
To establish goals, we need some agreement on What is and What should be REALNEO.

REALNEO's Drupal installation was upgraded to the most recent version in the 5.x branch early this morning, and all contributed modules as well.

We were pretty far out of date, and there were a number of kinks to work out that were holding up the upgrade process, so I'm glad we're past this.

Or nearly past this -- please comment here or let me know if anything doesn't seem to be working properly.

If you see the location of the site as "http://linode.realneo.us", don't worry: you've got the same site, it just means that you're still being redirected through the old address. Domain name changes take time to propagate through the net, and the updates haven't yet reached your computer.  (You can try clearing your DNS cache, if you're anxious, but it'll eventually pass.) If you see the normal URL, great.

Drupal is free and open-source software. Anybody can download, use, modify, repackage, and redistribute it (event at a price,) freely. Open source is not only key to its distribution but also its development, culture, and very nature.

I spoke with Robert Scales, RainCity Studios' founder and CEO, here at DrupalCon yesterday, to tell him how great the folks at Bryght, -- our host, recently acquired by RainCity -- have been.

The Drupal brand of geek is to me a tasteful breed -- a nice mashup of programmers, designers, and administrators -- and those for whom these interests/skills overlap.

I've never been able to relate extremely well with the hardcore Linux kernel hackers. Folks with that incredible sort of domain-specific brilliance definitely abound in the Drupal community, but, (I may piss off said hackers to say,) the Drupal folks tend to have their heads more in this world.

I've been messing around with some ideas for a favicon for REALNEO -- the little icon that shows up next to the URL in your browser, or when you bookmark the site, etc. Don't know about anyone else, but I'd really like to see REALNEO with its own icon instead of the standard Drupal raindrop.

I haven't gotten far yet, but I do believe I've hunted down the two fonts used in the logo, (heretofore a mystery, as far as I can tell.)

Is REALNEO safe for lurkers?

Identity is a crucial part of social software systems, but it can (and should) take time for an identity to reveal itself. Certainly, you can be invited to join an existing community by a friend—and that’s something we specifically designed for—but, even then, when you start to reach out from your “safety blanket,” your own identity comes to the fore. What do you do when you first hear of a new site to visit? I don’t know about you, but generally I’ll head on over and perhaps even sign up. As I poke around, I’m essentially anonymous. I have no ties to anyone or anything, and am free to move about without any recognition. This anonymity is important. It allows a new visitor to look around and get a feel for the place, and choose when and how to get started.
