A Victory for All of Us

Submitted by Quest-News-Serv... on Tue, 05/22/2012 - 16:49.

the government cannot strip a U.S. citizen of due process or use the military to arrest him or her and then hold him or her in military prison indefinitely - U.S. District Judge Katherine Forrest, in a 68-page opinion, ruled Wednesday that Section 1021 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) was unconstitutional. It was a stunning and monumental victory. With her ruling she returned us to a country where—as it was before Obama signed this act into law Dec.

REAL Food -and the myth of Urban Agriculture

The re-imagining hype towards promoting local food, healthy living and reversing "food deserts" looks like a huge ruse to me (a tax strategy for land holding and covering up failed real estate investment schemes). Sure--it all sounds hunky-dory and idealistic, and there are some elements of the "vision" that have merit, but large-scale food production in NEO is not feasible.

The ODOT saga continues

I haven't been updating this because I was spending a great deal of time researching environmental justice, one of the main goals of transportation. It requires providing timely and meaningful opportunities for participation and comment by representatives of potentially affected low income and minority communities and to address disproportionately high and adverse effects, including mitigation measures and consideration of alternatives that would avoid or reduce the disproportionately high and adverse effects.

Barrio (806 wine bar) in Tremont Seeks to Avoid Inspection, But Why?

Submitted by Quest-News-Serv... on Thu, 05/17/2012 - 17:57.

If Barrio’s bid is successful, says Henry Senyak of the Tremont West Development Corporation, it would open the door for any business to block city workers and police from performing inspections or enforcing regulations — and eventually to a lawless state in which feral dogs would run loose in the streets, lapping draft beer straight from bar taps and prank-calling pizza shops to order pies they have no intention of picking up.On the restaurant’s opening day earlier this month, Kahn and building owner Tom Leneghan sought court help to prohibit a planned city

Human race being terminated by 'scientific suicide' - Real science is the quest for understanding, not the quest for profit

Submitted by Quest-News-Serv... on Tue, 05/08/2012 - 00:14.

(NaturalNews) This is, without question, the most important article I've ever penned, because it discusses the idea that the human race is being destroyed in the name of science. What's clear from all this is that the human race is being murdered in the name of science.

Death by science

• Toxic pesticides that kill the soils and rivers? "Science!"

• Toxic chemical medications that kill humans and pollute downstream waters? "Scientific!"

WHAT IF NEIGHBORHOODS WERE DESIGNED FOR KIDS (NOT CARS)?

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 05/07/2012 - 18:11.

This afternoon it was sunny out and I was up working on the roof where I could see the kids next door  bouncing a basketball in their driveway.    I also could see and hear - on the next street over - other kids playing basketball in their quiet residential street.   Both sets of kids could have had a pick up game if they just could get to one another conveniently and safely - through the middle of the block.
