the fungal underground of a broken citySubmitted by Susan Miller on Thu, 03/04/2010 - 10:23.
I attended a workshop on compost tea last weekend, and it has had me thinking about fungal hyphae ever since. I wrote up my observations from the workshop on Localfood Cleveland. But here it is again - the way decay works to bring forth creativity.

The Old Light Bulb Joke ...Submitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 03/03/2010 - 18:09.
Did you hear the joke about how many (insert your favorite-to-ridicule ethnicity here) it takes to change a light bulb? In this case two City workers, and two to turn the truck! Just kidding, this is an unfair use of the image.

Igloo - building with water crystals in compressionSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 03/03/2010 - 14:36.
The recent snows in the North East Ohio area have stimulated children (and perhaps adults, in the case of the very cleanly expressed example in the image above) to creative play involving no commercial components.

SHAME -Citizens Challenge CMSD Transformation PlanSubmitted by lmcshane on Wed, 03/03/2010 - 06:49.
Justice for all! Voters in 2001 passed a levy to support services IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS--Facilities plan has NOT equitably invested those monies and Transformation Plan will deny service to neighborhood schools. Denying service to the taxpayers who support the school system--by closing schools specifically in predominantly African-American neighborhoods is a gross civil rights violation.

ORIGINAL CAPTION: This is a newborn offspring of Taskin, a Gypsy Stallion owned by Villa Vanners of Oregon. These pictures were taken immediately after his birth on April 6, 2009. The mare laid down, and then he trotted around and crawled right up into her lap.
No doubt one of my favorite artists ever is Neil Young - one of the greats I've never seen. So, I greatly appreciated finding relatively recent live video footage of him performing one of my favorite songs ever - "Tonight's the Night" - in Birmingham, England, sounding better than ever. I love this version, even with audio flaws and crowd noise present. Neil Young never sounded better! Unbelievable - I am going to find a way to see him before I die, now.
Thank you Claude06890 - The Ropey Old Pirate Show on YouTube - based in Birmingham, for making this experience possible, by paying to attend this Neil Young concert in England, recording it on a simple video device, and sharing it with the world... along with 6 other Neil Young video clips, now viewed a total of over 60,000 times around the world... along with the 300+ other great, original concert clips you have provided the world, from Birmingham - sharing over 2 years of your musical experiences with us here, in real NEO. I couldn't afford the airfare, so no harm done to Neil Young, for sure.
That is the power of the internet working for a musician.
One guy I knew in high school would make a difference in the world is Martin Davidson - smart and 100% competent and together at all times, in every way - and he is now Associate Professor of Leadership and Organizational Behavior at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business where he also serves as Associate Dean and Chief Diversity Officer. He blogs at Leveraging Difference. He also is frequently published in the Washington Post, as a Scholar "On Leadership."
I've been following his writing and thought realNEO members and leaders may find value in his latest column, in the Washington Post, that offers some relief from the pressure we all may feel to be perfect, rather than our flawed selves. This does not offer excuses for anyone, but does offer a level of understanding with gateways forward from troubled times, through equally troubling times ahead.
We need to get together, all our flaws and all.
It is time to revive the NEO Excellence Roundtable, now virtual.
As our first discussion of the day, what are we going to do about children on realNEO - and in real coop?
I want them here and welcome my children as members - and swear as little as possible in respect.
As per our terms of use, my children have my permission to be here. I want them here, learning from all of us - seeing our great work - adding to the intellectual property and building a good virtual existence for each of themselves - I know we are the future of IT and I want them here at our birth.
What are the results of the $billions in public money spent in Ohio on Economic Development, 3rd Frontier and "Film" in the past decade? Now is the time for an OUTSIDE audit, before our outbound leaders spend more of our money on the wrong things, while asking citizens for more money for the friends of current leadership to transfer to their new chosen-ones.
Do you have a chosen one?
Finally, someone talks some sense about the duties of new Cuyahoga County Commissioners under the County reform – candidate Clark Broida. The task of the county government is services, not economic development, he says.

In celebration of Pere Ubu's upcoming performance of Modern Dance, at the 10th Anniversay Perty of the Beachland Ballroom, I am featuring on realNEO some great work by David Thomas and his many collaborators. Featured today is one of Pere Ubu's recent creations - Bring Me The Head of Ubu Roi.
Expressionist avant-garage band Pere Ubu and film-makers The Brothers Quay present Bring Me The Head Of Ubu Roi, an adaptation of Ubu Roi, Alfred Jarry's landmark play that inspired the band's name and is widely seen as the precursor to the Absurdist, Dada and Surrealist art movements.
Song Of The Grocery Police Animation
The Quays' animation (see above), projected wide-screen, serves to frame the action on stage, which includes performance of the song "Song Of The Grocery Police."
The LondonistIt's hard not to delight in Thomas' frustrated dictatorship of both Poland and the production itself. Deviating from the plot to demand that the scene fade to black (which it always did, of course, by way of someone running past with a sign reading "Fade To Black"), Thomas displays an enthusiasm for the work that quickly spreads to the audience. When two of the characters exclaimed, "I think we're in danger of alienating the audience!", Queen Elizabeth Hall erupted in laughter. It was hilarious because it couldn't have been further from the truth.
I took a walk through a community garden in the middle of February - no one else was there.

The departure of the Brooklyn Dodgers was a blow to the people of Brooklyn, N.Y. but the arrival of a Ratner might be more devastating to Brooklyn citizens.

Several trolls on realNEO have been planting insults here that "realNEO doesn't matter"... which is wrong. All realNEO members should take offense.
The beauty of realNEO is that last year people in nearly every country in the world looked at 11,430 DIFFERENT pages, a total of 865,730 times. Most of those pages were created right here in Northeast Ohio - all were created by common realNEOans... 100s of us... over more than 5 years.

Sorrow's hangin' over me.Let me walk with you cuz it's breaking my heart.
The things that we had.
The good and the bad. Now it's parking lots.
Don't let's talk about tomorrow.
Baby! Standin' at the edge of sorrow.
Let's watch the whole world goin' slow.
Let's watch the whole world goin'.
