Clouds over CoffeeSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Sat, 04/10/2010 - 11:43.
The steam column rising from the coffee cups is three dimensional - this image is similar to an x-ray of a bone.

Why purple at Easter?Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sun, 04/04/2010 - 20:36.
Self imposed preamble: these proof images of Swiss chard are important to recognize because they have leaf circulation patterns which mirror blood vessels and watersheds, and stalks with vibrant red, yellow and purple colors - but they are mere vegetables. Why do churches adopt purple for Easter?

Warping light, sound, and time?Submitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 03/08/2010 - 21:32.
Why do small differentials in air temperature warp visible light? Index of refraction. An earlier post on Realneo wondered whether an invisibility cloak could be made from wire - the air temperature differential around the wires on the corn crib causes a visual moire effect. ( categories: )
Digital ProwessSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Sun, 03/07/2010 - 22:08.
No cell phone app will put buttons back on your shirt, or darn your socks. Have you ever created a shirt from a McCalls pattern? Have you sewn with a treadle machine and finished the details with needle and thread? It used to be that thimbles were an indispensible tool in every household - necessary for digital protection. The Old Light Bulb Joke ...Submitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 03/03/2010 - 18:09.
Did you hear the joke about how many (insert your favorite-to-ridicule ethnicity here) it takes to change a light bulb? In this case two City workers, and two to turn the truck! Just kidding, this is an unfair use of the image.

Igloo - building with water crystals in compressionSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 03/03/2010 - 14:36.
The recent snows in the North East Ohio area have stimulated children (and perhaps adults, in the case of the very cleanly expressed example in the image above) to creative play involving no commercial components. ( categories: )

I went to a Greater Cleveland Partnership funded "community" meeting tonight...and the hypocrisy and lies were so thick I felt like I had to ethically/intellectually PUKE.

What types of structures stood up to the Haiti quake?Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sat, 01/23/2010 - 08:32.
The 3 concrete domes on the Presidential Palace in Haiti not only survived the recent earthquake intact, they also appear to have survived their fall from their positions as roofs over the second floor of the Palace to their final resting positions on the rubble of the first floor.

Why ignorance prevails in our “democracy”.Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sat, 01/16/2010 - 23:13.
These T12 fluorescent light bulbs went obsolete a decade and a half ago.
But not in Ohio. Because Ohio has the right to be an ignorant state. Ohio has its own citizens who elect their own legislators. Ohio citizens have the right to be ignorant. And democracy will guarantee that the ignorant citizens of Ohio will retain their prerogative to remain backward. ( categories: )

When a Judge goes out of bounds....Submitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 01/13/2010 - 18:21.
Filing an ethics complaint against a Judge is serious business. And having such a complaint upheld by The Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline of the Supreme Court of Ohio means the complaint was found to be meritorious.
