Read about how radar images of weather fronts are developed on the National Weather Service web site.  The basics are as follows (from NWS):

SOCIETY UNRAVELING - Retro-fitting anti-sleep bench bars to our architecture

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sat, 04/16/2011 - 09:32.

You are looking at a little signal about our society - short metal bars which are an indication of a big problem.

20, 30, 50 years ago these little bars weren't necessary in the US.

Today we face the unpleasant task of keeping people from sleeping, and living, in public places.  Especially warm places (image above) next to building HVAC exhaust grates.

MIT nuke nuclear reactor on Massachusetts Ave in Cambridge

This is a tiny 5 megawatt nuclear reactor right in the middle of  Cambridge, Mass.   It has been in operation since the mid 1950's.  MIT wants to up it to 10 megawatts.

All the waste heat from the reactor is dissipated through the wet cooling tower - in the image above only the left half of the cooling tower is in operation.

Local Library - but I had to pay for Mack's overdue book!

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 04/14/2011 - 19:35.

It isn't really in my nature to keep up the Mack's an Idiot spiel.   I did have a point to make, and maybe I expressed it so that some may have it.

MACK'S AN IDIOT

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 10:24.

I am working on a story about my ex-friend Mack, who let me use his beach house free for a week - but even before I got to pop my first Heine, I knew Mack was an ass hole.   I'm still too angry to write more now....when I get myself calmed down, I'll post the rest of my insults about Mack and his f#*king beach house.

crocus in sunlight yellow

Purple, gold, brilliant white - crocus in bloom - what's the point?  Too cold for bees.

The show is only a few days in length - while the other 362 days spin by.

How does this work?

Hi!   I'm not too big but I still count.    And I can fly and you can't!

Your energy decisions impact me because I breath the air, I eat the nectar just like bees and you do.

And now, with Realneo, my opinion can be heard load and clear worldwide.

Come on you guys, you aren't infallible, and never will be.  So ditch the critical mass path.

WIND BLOWN ISOTOPES IN OUR LUNGS - LIKE PLASTIC TRASH AGAINST THE FENCE

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Fri, 04/01/2011 - 21:34.

This fence catches all the plastic and paper trash which the wind blowns against it - like whale baleen catch krill.

And around the globe every living organism catches isotopes from Japan.   Your lungs, my lungs, your cat's lungs.

Just throw the Duncan Donuts foam cup out the window...no problem.   It is just one light cup.

Man are we a sick bunch.

Ed Hauser - dissembling

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Fri, 03/25/2011 - 20:44.

While we fight amoung ourselves, the big picture is moving away.

Why is it that those of us who are so similiar to one another fight intensely amoung ourselves,  and the real purpose of our passion and convictions is totally wasted?

I'm typing in the dark, but check out the 2008 Hauser post back here.

Convince the far opponent first...

DRY STONE WALL - QUALITY WORK PLACES LARGER STONES AT THE TOP

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sun, 03/20/2011 - 21:12.

stome wall quality contstruction image jeff buster 3.20.11

The most difficult stones to place on the top of a stone wall are the larger stones.  But to hold the wall together you need the larger stones on the top.
Today, with hydraulic loaders and other fancy lifting equipment, you will see the small stones on the top.

Observation: the more difficult the physical construction, the better the quality of the work.

Pretty amazing what can be done with totally amateur imaging equipment these days.   From the back porch to the computer and then onto the web.

Almost at no cost.  Check out the material tracks out of the crater on the lower right hand side.  Well at least Japan hasn't been hit with a meteor like this.

Douglas fir tip drop disease - what is it?

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Fri, 03/18/2011 - 16:01.

These two green 6 inch long douglas fir branch tips were two of hundreds carpeting the  ground under a 50 foot high Douglas fir last week.

I believe there is some type of a boring insect which invades the cambium right at the point of break-off.   But I couldn't distinquish what exactly invaded.

The amplitude and speed of the tsunami is determined by the floor profile of the Pacific Ocean.  The frequency was simple: 1
