ED YOUNG'S DEATH REMINDS US OF OUR POISONOUS POLITICS

Submitted by Roldo on Sat, 02/27/2010 - 12:45.

I’m saddened by the death of former Cleveland school board member Ed Young. His story goes to the heart of why Cleveland is the way it is. With sour and destructive politics. Personally and civically.

Why My Boys Are Lead Poisoned: "City Supports Medical Center Company Demolition and Redevelopment Project"

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 02/25/2010 - 14:44.

Meet the biggest development secret in unreal NEO, that makes the Opportunity Corridor look like heaven on Earth - here is the big opportunity being rammed through East Cleveland... although we've never seen a plan... you've only read about it here, on realNEO, because the PD is part of making this happen, obviously... you think Litt didn't know about THIS, when he wrote this?

And you think bad shit goes down in your neighborhood.

SILLY SEASON OPENS IN COUNTY REFORM CAMPAIGN

Submitted by Roldo on Mon, 02/22/2010 - 21:36.

Okay, the nonsense begins. County reform just took a bad turn with the report in Crain’s Cleveland Business that candidate for County chief executive Matt Dolan wants to cut the County sales tax after backing the quarter percent increase for the Medical Mart deal.

CLEVELAND - AND GOOD NEWS IN A MAGAZINE!

Submitted by Roldo on Mon, 02/22/2010 - 14:00.

Hey, a magazine - The Nation - with an article on Cleveland that’s positive and hopeful – about the Evergreen Cooperative Laundry and its promising help for our city. Headlined “The Cleveland Model,” it suggests a possibility for other hard-pressed cities, too. With Cleveland as the model.

Question of the Day: Do you know "The WebLady"?

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 02/22/2010 - 13:11.

I am not in any way near the intellectual status as you and your members of realNEO, but I appreciate the assistance.  When I went into the 2nd grade at Chesterfield Elementary school, the teachers reported to my Mom that my attention span was very short and that I fidgeted a lot which disturbed the class.  I always did my work really fast and correct and then when left idle, that's when the fidgeting would start.  So they put me in an Enrichment Program which was similar to the Major Work program and that's how I met Henry - I was transferred to Parkwood Elementary where the

I've Identified Some Astounding Information Technology Talents in real NEO who have been Harmed by our Leadership

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 02/22/2010 - 07:37.

I've Identified Some Astounding Information Technology Talent in real NEO that has been harmed by our regional leadership, and I'm trying to find a nice way to deal with that. Each of these people have risen to positions of demonstrated excellence in their fields - have innovated our regional information technology landscape and had global impact - and each of them have been directly violated by leadership in our community - IT leadership and community development leadership. They have each done the right things - each taken the right steps - and each been blocked along the way. And each are "minority". How do I now give them the proper status they deserve in the community, where they have not been welcome or valued?

OVERLOOKING THE OBVIOUS WITH BRENT LARKIN

How pathetic can you get? Brent Larkin today uses quotes from four City Council members to tell us that Cleveland is in serious, serious trouble.

My world has been quieter, lately, and then I realized... less spam on REALNEO

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 02/18/2010 - 14:17.

Props to Jeff Shuler, realNEO's tech administrator. He has been implementing an anti-spam strategy that seems to be working... meaning admins don't have to block a dozen spammers and delete their lame links, each day....! Thank you Jeff S!

If you are a real realNEO user and you have any trouble with accessing or posting to the site, it is not because an admin hates you - there is software now analyzing all the content posted to the site and running tests to rate how likely it is that the content is spam, and Jeff is adjusting settings to try and block out the spam, without impacting real users. The system must learn - a type of "artificial intelligence" - and it is learning - and it seems to be working. IF YOU ARE BLOCKED FOR ANY REASON AND SHOULD NOT BE BLOCKED, GO TO THE CONTACT LINK IN THE MENU BAR ABOVE AND LET US KNOW!

RICHEST GET RICHER BUT PAY LESS IN FEDERAL TAX

Submitted by Roldo on Thu, 02/18/2010 - 11:49.

It’s no surprise but it’s good to have the real data. The top 400 earners saw their tax rates drop as their income soared. No one gives us this information better than David Cay Johnston. He says that these top income households have “soared to a new record high.”

Software Freedom Day in Toronto 2006

I attended an excellent Software Freedom Day event in Toronto in 2006, which I introduced on REALNEO here, and covered on REALNEO here - I actually needed a copy of Ubuntu that day, so it came in very handy.

I'd like to see Northeast Ohio celebrate Software Freedom Day 2010 in a BIG WAY - Saturday, September 18 - and follow the model I saw in use in Toronto, which included active, friendly engagement on a busy street, with workshops and light training/Q&A offered inside a receptive place. Of course, the Linux Penguin was out-front to draw attention to the event... we definitely need a penguin.

I'm Proud My Wife Has Been A Great Role Model To 10,000+ People Considering Childbirth

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 02/14/2010 - 10:48.

It has been exciting to watch, over the past week, as this beautiful video clip of my beautiful wife Evelyn giving birth to our beautiful daughter Clara has been viewed by nearly 6,000 people on YouTube - a companion video clip of my wife in hypno-birth, water-birth labor has received nearly as much global attention... in a week. In a week, those two clips attracted around 10,000 unique viewers... about as many unique viewers as come to our REALNEO community, in a week. The value of sharing these videos on YouTube is obvious - that is a good distribution channel to teach people about childbirth. So is REALNEO.

ARE WE SAFE WITH ZANOTTI TAKING A REFORM LEAD?

DOLPH NORTON PLAYED KEY ROLE IN URBAN CONTROL

Submitted by Roldo on Thu, 02/11/2010 - 12:30.

Dolph Norton, whose obituary ran in yesterday’s Plain Dealer, was the “liberal” face of the Cleveland Foundation during the late 1960s when corporate leaders needed to deal with, for them, new and scary urban problems.

BOYCOTT CHANNEL 3 - WKYC - FOR SLASHING WORKERS PAY

Submitted by Roldo on Mon, 02/08/2010 - 14:46.

Cleveland’s TV station owners are – as are other corporations – taking advantage of the job problems – by slashing the pay of its workers. It’s for no other reason than they can apparently get away with it.
