Physicians for National Health Program @ Common Dreams - A national organization of 17,000 physicians who favor a single-payer health care system called on the US Senate today to defeat the health care legislation presently before it and to immediately consider the adoption of an expanded and improved Medicare-for-All program.

While noting that the Senate bill includes some "salutary provisions" like an expansion of Medicaid, increased funding for community clinics and the curbing of some

DOES THE PD SHY FROM RAPPING BILL MASON?

Submitted by Roldo on Fri, 12/18/2009 - 14:54.

Did the Plain Dealer kill a story on Prosecutor Bill Mason because of the paper’s so – maybe too - close relationship with the people behind Issue 6 – County Reform?

Uncle Tom or Uncle Sam: Nader says criticism of Obama long overdue

Submitted by Eternity on Fri, 12/18/2009 - 11:20.

The Daily Beast - Democrats are steaming over the White House’s capitulation to liberal nemesis Joe Lieberman’s demands to remove a public option and Medicare buy-in from the Senate’s heath-care bill. Progressive figures including Howard Dean and Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas have gone so far as to suggest scrapping the bill entirely and starting over, sparking rebukes from White House officials like David Axelrod, who called such a move “insane” in a Morning Joe interview on MSNBC on Thursday.

Submitted by Roldo on Thu, 12/17/2009 - 12:23.

There are some sane voices around. Better we listen to them or wait another 40 years for some kind of health care reform. Listen to the sane voices for a change.

HEALTH CARE REFORM MUST BE PASSED

Submitted by Roldo on Wed, 12/16/2009 - 09:54.

Nate Silver, the numbers man, tells us why it is so important to pass the health reform bill – even without the more desirable public options. What he sees: poorer people getting subsidized care and the subsidy coming from higher incomes sources.

Submitted by Roldo on Fri, 12/11/2009 - 17:26.

American Prospect finds a number of factual errors in Matt Taibbi’s critique of President Barack Obama’s economic record. Indeed, it calls his piece in Rolling Stone “a factual mess.”

DOES CLEVELAND REALLY NEED A GARBAGE TAX?

Submitted by Roldo on Thu, 12/10/2009 - 17:07.

The flow of federal stimulus money into Cleveland makes me wonder why Mayor Frank Jackson and his merry elves at City Council need to burden residents with a garbage tax.

For Frank Giglio: Demolition isnt the Ending

Submitted by jwobig on Mon, 12/07/2009 - 16:23.

My knowledge of Mr. Frank Giglio's historic property started from personal experience when living in Tremont. As I have moved to Cleveland Heights, my eyes are still focused on the events in Tremont. "Redevelopment" is a scarey word for those who live in Tremont, and need support by the City (police, fireman, and other services)... not demolition, more project housing, commercial buildings, or some other over priced townhome vomit for the imaginary flock of executives rushing into Cleveland.

ARCADE'S FAILURE POINTS TO MORE DOWNTOWN PROBLEMS

Submitted by Roldo on Mon, 12/07/2009 - 10:35.

The highly-subsidized Hyatt Regency Cleveland and the historic 1890 The Arcade “may go up for auction at a Cuyahoga County sheriff sale”, according to an article today in Crain’s Cleveland Business by Stan Bullard. Failure of the Cleveland’s architectural gem points to continued economic problems in downtown Cleveland.

Submitted by Kevin Cronin on Sun, 11/29/2009 - 23:23.

Despite public support and an obligation to evaluate cycling and pedestrian access to the proposed Interstate 90/71 Bridge from tremont to downtown, the Ohio Department of Transportation refused to do so.In response, a bunch of cycling and community groups took on the responsibilities ODOT dropped.  Come out next Sunday, December 6th, and learn about an exciting vision for a cycling and pedestrian lane on the bridge and why an exciting, beautiful path (along with a place to enjoy the view) to connect the towpath and downtown makes sense for Northeast Ohio

INTEREST ON MED MART TAX KICKING INCOME UP

Submitted by Roldo on Mon, 11/23/2009 - 15:00.

Cuyahoga County expects the Medical Mart fund to be at about $80 million by the end of this year. That’s a few million dollars less than expected because sale tax revenue has been down. However, that doesn’t include investment earnings that add to the fund.
