I have been busy with my rose garden

Submitted by Oldroser on Tue, 07/05/2011 - 02:32.

My mini wire-haired dachshunds and my roses are my great joys. So I can safely work in the garden, there are conduit pipes and fence posts stuck here and  there with wire cable connecting them for me to grab onto if I start to fall. You can see this at the right of the picture below.

Mass. Legislation attempts to force vehicle software into public realm

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Tue, 06/28/2011 - 21:05.

So you buy a car for $50,000.00 - that doesn't mean you get the software you need to monitor and fix it.   In fact you don't get that vital component of the product you purchased.   Instead, the dealers get the software - so you are a captive of theirs.

You really didn't buy all of the car, you just bought the part you can see.

Mowing the REAL way - with a sythe

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 06/27/2011 - 22:49.

This is my idea of good exercise.  And man it is exercise to use a sythe to mow. (image courtesy my friend Rich G.)

I think this is also an apt image - Realneo working with hand tools to mow the world while everyone else uses combines.  You get it? don't you?

Please relay your hand mowing exeriences for the rest of us.

You can read about cache refresh here.

After a Realneo user brought it to my attention, I was dumb founded by the issue earlier today too.

Then I remembered Realneo is now running an updated text editor module.  Its recent installation was the reason your computer's cache needs to be refreshed - in order to load the new editor module.

Thanks for your interest in Realneo.

Registered Sex Offenders Live Illegally Near Every School in Cleveland.

Submitted by tomtom on Mon, 06/27/2011 - 09:35.

RAG has asked the Cleveland Law Department to start a pilot project in our ward to move registered sex offenders to legal addresses.

The loophole in the residency laws forbids offenders from living near schools and other prohibited entities but fails to place a penalty on failing to do so. Each municipal law director must file a civil action against each offender to force them to move.

I have lived in NEO for most of my life and somehow this annual event was not on my radar.

After a week of gloomy weather, the rain lifted and the sunshine and clouds almost stole the show--the dancing acts were entertaining, despite a difficult seating and stage arrangement.

Sustainable communities need a different kind of planning: Agile planning

Submitted by Ed Morrison on Sat, 06/25/2011 - 17:25.

At the Purdue Center for Regional Development, we are working to evolve more agile planning models under some HUD sustainability and Choice Neighborhood grants.

So far, this much is clear to me: HUD’s staff is more project or transaction driven, and they have little experience thinking in a longer term strategic or systems context. So, the feds are not likely going to provide much guidance on these new models.

Second, “logic models” — a primary tool used by the Feds and foundations to evaluate a potential investment — tend to be too simple to capture the complexities of a sustainable economy, which calls for a systems mindset.

Third, we will need to experiment with new, agile planning approaches, because the traditional, linear planning models are inadequate for building sustainable communities. They are too liner, slow, inflexible and costly.

The challenge we face involves developing agile, open processes that are guided by experienced collaborative leaders. Balancing open participation and leadership guidance seems to me to be at the heart of what we need to do.

Candidate Forums during Election Campaigns

Submitted by ANGELnWard14 on Fri, 06/24/2011 - 18:45.

While sorting, saving, reviewing and deleting over 3,000 emails; I found myself reviewing the mindboggling campaign trail of last year. It was intriguing to see countless organizations vying to host "Candidate Forums" and present "Candidate Info" via their mediums. The entire process is quite demanding and requires an administrative assistant or staff that can keep a candidate bouncing around town daily for months on end trying to meet, greet, and communicate with key leadership throughout the region. It was extraordinary to experience this environment.
