VOINOVICH'S SOCIALISM MEANS FAVORS TO RICH

Submitted by Roldo on Mon, 10/20/2008 - 18:26.

How disgusting and vile are the charges from Sen. George Voinovich that Sen. Barack Obama is a “Socialist.” It tells me that Voinovich would be a staunch McCarthyism advocate if this were the 1950s. What's so ironic and laughable is the Voinovich record of being a Socialist mayor to the Rich of Cleveland. His record is replete with massive give-aways to Cleveland corporate interest. It isn’t for nothing that he once bragged to the New York Times that he loved “Fat Cats,” meaning wealthy corporate types.

PD DISTORTS CITY 'INCOME' TAX ISSUE

Submitted by Roldo on Mon, 10/20/2008 - 11:36.

Laura Johnston’s Metro Page Sunday piece on “wage earners” bearing the burden of city taxes presented a distorted view of the issue. It left out the most important factor of this payroll tax – it has no progressivity. It is a regressive tax.

Peace in our Parks

Submitted by metroparks muse on Sun, 10/19/2008 - 14:10.

The Plain Dealer today has a story on the local mountain bikers' belligerent battle with Cleveland Metroparks. The mountain bike crowd believes that parks exist for recreation - with their emphasis being on speed and obstacles - while actually MetroParks founding legislation was for protection of natural areas.

Bikers like the sensation of speed they get from whizzing past trees - and favor races, competitions, timed runs. Walkers, hikers, horseback riders generally move at a leisurely pace, admiring their surroundings, winding down from the speed of life elsewhere. Nothing wrong with bikers per se, but perhaps they could utilize brownfield areas leaving others to appreciate nature without being run over.

How Ugly Can it Get

The ugliness of the McCain/Palin campaign and the hate they are
churning up can be seen in this Youtube couple of minutes:

The Chicago Tribune endorsed Barack Obama for President today. First time in history for a Democrat to be endorsed by the Tribune.

The Los Angeles Times endorsed Barack Obama for President.

The Boston Globe has endorsed Barack Obama for President.

peel me a grape

Submitted by Susan Miller on Fri, 10/17/2008 - 16:03.

Imagine our new juvenile justice center surrounded by vineyard. In winter these little gnarly crosses in matrix gracing the portage escarpment where the eastern plateau rolls downhill sometimes gently, sometimes precipitously toward the river valley.

RESIST URGE TO VOTE NADER & VOTE OBAMA

Submitted by Roldo on Fri, 10/17/2008 - 12:28.

There is probably no one in the world that I respect more than Ralph Nader. No one I trust more. But I’m telling every Ohio voter, don’t vote for Ralph Nader.

The reason is simple. We cannot afford to have President John McCain.

30 Chambers of Commerce Adopt High-Skill Immigration Reform Proposal Created in Cleveland

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 10/16/2008 - 17:35.

I received the following from NEO's champion of immigration reform, Richard Herman, which sounds exciting. I am certainly for opening up national borders - I think any of us should be able to go and live wherever we want, whenever we want. I haven't read the policy recommendations, beyond what Richard provided, and I'm not sure a merit based point system and ""High-Skill" focus are right, but anything that opens up borders, rather than building walls, is a good thing.

Zoo is a funny word and an often sad place. Zoos let us look at the animals we compete against to live in this world. Somedays, it seems that we can all get along, afterall, and it can be a beautiful world for all of God's living things.

Everyone in Cuyahoga County should read Erick Trickey’s piece on Pat O’Malley in the October issue of Cleveland Magazine. It’s a must read to show what the Plain Dealer has avoided doing for years about Prosecutor Bill Mason’s buddy, O’Malley.

Tech Superstars Hit the Road for Obama

Submitted by Kevin Cronin on Sat, 10/11/2008 - 00:02.

There's something about tech entrepreneurs talking to superstar tech entrepreneurs that is, as Sarah Palin might say, "so gosh, darn excitin'." While I could have done without people getting so braggy about Columbus and a booming tech industry, but I was excited to meet some tech superstars, who hit the road on behalf of Barack Obamma's presidential campaign at an event called 2.Ohio.

pinwheels or vertical wind mills?

Submitted by rnojonson on Fri, 10/10/2008 - 23:33.

Sometimes I see wind mills like trees between here and Sandusky or a stretch of Lake Erie. Giant pinwheels have the Holland air about them no matter now modern design disguises them. Was reading Popular Science, they had a picture of a huge vertical wind turbine...............

It's The Usury, Stupid

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 10/10/2008 - 22:21.

I've been trying to decide how to break it to PBS conservative talk show host Charlie Rose why the global economy has collapsed. He's been struggling with the issue for a few months now... probably since about the time his stock portfolio started tanking (he should be a very rich man, and so is losing $ millions). He's been interviewing every industrial and political devil who caused this, and they blame little government regulator people, and all decide it is best not to look back, as they weep over their lost fractions-of-fortunes. Yet not one has exposed why this occurred, which is usury.

BAD JOB FIGURES FOR CUYAHOGA, OHIO, USA FROM ZELLER

Submitted by Roldo on Thu, 10/09/2008 - 18:16.

With the stock market down 675 today you probably don't need any more bad economic news. But research analyst George Zeller is dishing out more. He reports that the unemployment levels are "very discouraging" nationally, "unambiguously unfavorable" for Ohio and "alarmingly high" for Cuyahoga County. "The level of new claims in Cuyahoga County was alarmingly high in the new week," Zeller reports on unemployment figures.
