The Tax Poem

Tax his land, Tax his bed,
Tax the table, At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor, Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes, Are the rule.

Tax his work, Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts, Anyway!
Tax his cow, Tax his goat,
Tax his pants, Tax his coat.

Tax his ties, Tax his shirt,
Tax his work, Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink,

Where's Ray Shepardson? It's time to restage Jacques Brel! Or maybe some depression era plays.

Tommy, left, and Terry Shoulders are identical twins and Cleveland Police Vice Squad sergeants. The panhandler wandering the food court at Tower City was loud and aggressive. Cleveland cop Terry Shoulders offered two options: Get lost or go to jail. The beggar hiked down Euclid Avenue toward East Fourth Street, where he began intimidating an old man. Suddenly the same cop, now out of uniform, was back in his face. How did he do that? "Hey, man," said the panhandler. "You just threw me out of Tower City. What the ...?" The panhandler wasn't seeing things.

I was thrilled to see all sorts of green sprouts and now colors appearing in our yard this week - and the header of the day features some of the first daffodils on Daffidil Hill, in Lakeview Cemetery - a few blocks from my house in East Cleveland.

I'll let you know when and where are the best flowers in my part of town - you let us know what's popping up around you - let's have a REALNEO virtual garden tour!

Art of the deal

Submitted by lmcshane on Thu, 04/02/2009 - 07:05.

Yesterday's daily ethical transgression--Lottery Director Dolan's distribution of tickets to a state trooper--was discussed and my sister, the artist, referred me to the work of Mark Lombardi.

It's how conflict of interest makes for slippery slopes.  I hope that I don't offend any of the wrong people by mentioning the reference.

The Waterloo Cafe

Submitted by frankyz669 on Wed, 04/01/2009 - 11:17.

I would like to post what I hope to be an item of interest to everybody here.

I plan on creating an amenity that the Collinwood neighborhood (and Cleveland) needs.

I am opening a cafe - it will be called the Waterloo Cafe.

It will feature a menu that emphasizes local agriculture.  The cafe will be a combination coffeehouse, cafe, and bar/nightclub in the burgeoning Waterloo Entertainment District.

Submitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Tue, 03/31/2009 - 10:26.

There is plenty of opera in Cleveland, though not all of it is live. Now technology allows us see and hear MET performances, almost as if we were there. Severance Town Center is no Lincoln Center, but the tickets are a lot cheaper.

I would like to give someone in NEO Two Free Tickets to a Metropolitan Opera performance of La Sonnabula (The sleepwalker) music by Vicenzo Bellini, Italian libretto by Felice Romani.
