PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS: GOING ON A HUNGER STRIKE CAN BE BORING – SO I SPEND AS MUCH OF MY WAKING TIME POSTING ON FACEBOOK (SAVE JOHN MARSHALL HIGH SCHOOL GROUP) AND MY BLOG AT REALNEO. USUALLY THE POSTS ARE FAIRLY DETAILED AND REQUIRE MULTIPLE DRAFTS. I ALSO WENT OUT TODAY – THE NINTH DAY – I WALKED VERY SLOWLY. IT TOOK ME 40 MINUTES TO WALK TO THE BUS STOP – WHICH I NORMALLY CAN DO IN HALF THE TIME. PRIOR TO START OF THE HUNGER STRIKE ON 11-20-12, I HAD FASTED – 12 TO 18 HOURS EVERY DAY SINCE MAY 1, 2012. SO FAR – I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY HUNGER PANGS. PLEASE SEE PREVIOUS POSTS FOR ADDITIONAL DETAILS ON THE HUNGER STRIKE! Plain Press Coverage Save JMHS campaign
The December issue of the Plain Press has a good overview of Mr. Puri's cause to Save John Marshall with an article by Chuck Hoven. Chuck spoke Thurs 11/29 at the WEWS Town Hall at Lincoln West High School about taxes not paid by area hospitals towards supporting schools and he has an excellent article analyzing the school levy in the December issue, as well. He concludes the article by saying:
In Cuyahoga County, with the proper persuasion from elected leaders, our hospitals must be convinced it is in their interest and the interest of the future of the community to be the first to sign up for a Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) program to help Cleveland provide quality preschool education. The hospitals should also be the first to willingly enlist in a Services in Lieu of Taxes (SILOT) program to provide Cleveland parents with quality prenatal and post natal care and equip each elementary school in Cleveland with a clinic to assure Cleveland children receive the health care services that will help to discover and treat health issues that may interfere with student's ability to succeed in school.
